About

I guess I should start by saying that if I were being honest, the name of my blog should be called The “Displaced” Northeast Girl.  I was born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania and for those that know me well, know that in Pennsylvania is where my heart and soul belong.  I simply love everything about the northeastern way of life but I especially love the four distinct seasons we have in Pennsylvania.  I love the smell of the fresh air in the spring time, the chill to your bones during winter, the subtle heat and low humidity of summer, and the first cool day of fall.  In the quiet suburbs, we are always less than two hours away from the mountains, the coastal beaches, and the wide open spaces of central Pennsylvania.  We are a quick drive into Philadelphia and a fast train ride to New York City.  What more could you ask for when looking for the perfect location to set up and settle down?  I know it’s a little far fetched to try and convince others that I love the great state of PA simply because of the climate it offers, so I will go as far as saying this:  No matter what time of year, the smell in the air can instantly bring back memories of childhood and the ease of growing up with little to no worries.  It’s nostalgic, really, and I hope that one day I can fully own up to my blog and continue my story as a true “Northeast Girl”.

But for now,  I will let you know that I’m a daughter, a sister, a twin, a wife, a mother, and an educator.  I married my high school sweetheart, Curtis, in 2004 and we had our only daughter, Ava, in 2008.  You can read more about my little family of three in the “Family ” section of my blog.  I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate degree and became a certified teacher when I took graduate courses at West Chester University.  I have taught Kindergarten on and off while moving all over the world with my husband and daughter.

Curtis, Ava and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, (for now) as we proudly support my husband with his latest assignment in the United States Air Force.

I have maintained a private blog for years but decided that it was time to take my small place on the internet and put it out there!  I start each day reading updates from some of my favorite bloggers and am so excited to share our story.   Thank you so much stopping by to read about our journey!

Hi Cristina! Thank you!! :) I have pretty sensitive skin but my routine is pretty easy and budget friendly! I use cetaphil products to wash my face and their restorderm lotion to moisturize. My make up is all over the counter, too!!! I use Almay foundation with SPF, Physicians Formula bronzer and blush, finally Urban Decay Naked Palette, Clinique, and Smashbox on my eyes. Oh, and I have yet to find a lipstick I love so it’s blistex all the time!

I think you just convinced me to move to PA :) haha! I grew up in Oregon and I LOVE the seasons. Love love!! I lived in Florida (hated it) and now I live in SoCal, where there are mild seasons–my husband is in the Coast Guard :)

Love your blog, I am visiting from Katie’s blog!

Hi Amanda! If you did up and move to the great state of PA, I swear you wouldn’t regret it!!! :) My husband and his AF career literally take us to the hottest places in the US and I will be so thankful once we settle down some day! Until then, we just enjoy the ride! We did live in England for 4 years and aside from the awesome travel experiences, I am one of the random few that loved the cold and dreary weather! It’s nice to see another mil wife, too! Thank you for coming to visit!!! I hope you come back, too!!!

I found your blog through Pinterest and I love your style! I am 30 years old, married, have two kids, and I am finishing my degree in Elementary Education this coming semester. I will be student-teaching in a kindergarten classroom! Any advice as to how to start building a teacher wardrobe?

Hi Beth!!! Thanks for coming over from Pinterest!!!!! How funny…we have so many similarities!!! You’re going to love teaching Kindergarten! I adore those little faces! As for building your teaching wardrobe, I live in black pants from Express in long sleeve tees from the Gap. I usually dress it up with fun necklaces but never go too crazy. It’s not that I’m trying to be “boring” but with Kinder, you spent a lot of time on floor or elbow deep in paint, and I don’t want to ruin my really nice things! I do tend to wear a lot of cardigans with fun printed tanks underneath too! I should get together a quick post in the future for how I built my “work wardrobe”! Thanks again for coming by!!! I hope you visit again soon!!!! :)

Hi! I just found your blog as I was trying to get ideas to do a big wardrobe refresh. I just love it! You have fantastic taste. I particularly share your penchant for designer bags. You’ll have to give me your secret for getting them by your husband!! I had pinned about a dozen of your outfits before I read your bio, and I love your story. I too am a displaced PA girl. Penn State grad (husband went to Pitt). I’m in San Diego now though and don’t feel tempted to return to that PA weather at all yet. Especially after this winter! Anyway, love your blog. Thanks for all the great outfit ideas!!

I too am a teacher who loves family, the simple life, and fashion. I just saw a post with the JCrew madras shirt and mini and I had to get the whole outfit! Keep doing what you are doing!

I am a fellow WCU education grad! Thank you so much the wonderful description of Pennsylvania and all it’s beauty. I was born in the southwest and long for the desert air but marriage, family and wonderful career opportunities have kept me in Lancaster County, PA. Again, thank you for the lovely description of PA…it is much needed after this winter. Oh and your clothes are wonderful!
