Oh, ode to cashmere! I mentioned a few posts ago that I have quite the affinity for a cashmere sweater. While I could go on and on about the benefits to wearing cashmere, I feel like as soon as most people hear the word they automatically thing of cost. While I can’t sit here and tell you that there’s some magical store out there selling luxurious cashmere sweaters for next to nothing, I can tell you that there are ways to add super soft sweater to your inventory at a fraction of the cost.
First off, I love cashmere because it’s so soft and non irritating to my skin. I have sensitive skin and every once in a while I have flares of eczema. When I turned 30-something my body decided it wanted to flip itself for a loop and super sensitive skin was one of the curve balls that’s recently been thrown my way. FUN! I’ve found that unlike wool and wool blends, my skin will always be comfortable in cashmere. Second, if you care for your sweaters over the years by keeping them stored properly when not in use, they should be quality enough to last for, well, ever. If I’m going to invest in something that’s a bit pricey, I make sure it’s not super trendy and that I will be able to wear it season after season. I also find cashmere pills less and dry cleans better.
Most of my cashmere comes from J.Crew and I always, always, ALWAYS wait for them to go on sale AND have a promo code to add on top of it. I also like to buy the basics that I can wear all year. I love three-quarter length sleeves and cardigans which can work well on a cool summer night and still keep you warm under your heavy winter coat. Let me be honest in saying that I don’t even really buy sweaters any more as I’ve collected enough to last me a while. I wait each year for cashmere to go on sale and then pick a few that I’ve had my eye on. This pink cashmere sweater is a perfect example and I love it. I paid a third of the retail and, to me, it was worth every penny.
Not a fan of the ‘crew?! I’ve also picked up a few cashmere sweaters over the years at Marshall’s! They have tons of options to chose from and the quality is fantastic. I’ll add a picture down below from back in 2009 of a cardigan I bought from Marshall’s and it’s still in perfect condition. I think it was like $49 too! Steal.
Does anyone else have a love for the cashmere like I do? If you have any tips to share on buying cashmere, feel free to share!
Have a great weekend! Thank you so much for checking in with me again today!
