There she is, girls! The cutest navy sequin dress that you can’t wait to wear this holiday season! It sparkles, it’s cute and flirty, and I love the unexpected navy coming up everywhere this season. I’m so used to gold, silver, red and green that it’s nice to see a wild card out in the mix. You’ll wear this dress…and then off to the closet it goes only to be seen again on your girlfriend that decides to borrow it. Am I right?!
Well, let’s stop banishing these “one hit wonders” to the closet after merely one wear and then being depressed that you dropped a little bit of money on a dress that only comes out once a year. Instead, let’s get a little creative with our wardrobe and transform the dresses that we used to assume only had one job.
Truth is, I love the idea of bringing sequins out into the daylight, especially during the fall and winter. With all that cold and grey we could really use a little shine here and this season! Today, I’m sharing two different ways I would put a spin on this holiday dress right here so it doesn’t get lost in the depths of your closet after you wear it one night for a few short hours. I promise it has much more potential!
Turtleneck Sweater | Sequins Dress | Clutch | Earrings | Tall Boots
First. think about how you can layer the dress. I love bringing together navy, cognac, and grey so here, I picked a warm and cozy turtleneck sweater to cover your arms and also give the illusion that you’re wearing a skirt, not a dress. And, instead of wearing shimmery heels or stilettos, grab your favorite pair of tall boots which obviously keep your legs warm but also, add to the overall casual look. Playing with your accessories would be a personal preference but when I was putting this look together, I envisioned myself on a day date with my husband so I went with some pretty earrings and an easy clutch. It feels so great to ditch the big totes when my daughter is off with a sitter.
The dress here is quickly transformed into a skirt and with a few added casual pieces, you’re more than ready to take this former “night time only” dress and give a whole new meaning.
Denim Jacket | Sequins Dress | Infinity Scarf | Booties | Clutch
And because I can’t seem to stop thinking about these tall booties, I really wanted to try and create a casual look around them, too! I also know that some girls out there aren’t as big of a fan of tall boots, so you can also have a little fun with this dress by pairing it with the ultimate relaxed piece : a denim jacket. I swear, I will wear denim jackets all.year.long. Of course, living in the desert where the winters are mild usually helps make that happen, but as far as I’m concerned denim jackets don’t recognize seasonal changes.
So, taking that sequined dress and making it ready for daylight is pretty easy! Again, toss aside your dressy shoes and grab your favorite booties. I even thought about wearing a beige sweater hoodie under this denim jacket so you can, again, give the illusion that this dress is really a skirt. Sneaky, right? That sweater also helps keep you a little bit warmer so not only is it cute, it’s also pretty functional. Keeping the accessories in tone with the shoes, I went this this cable knit infinity scarf and a cute and easy clutch to hold for the day.
This is a great little outfit for a day shopping with girlfriends or even to a daytime holiday party that’s more on the casual side…but your inner holiday shine just wants to come out and play.
I love the idea of giving pieces in my closet new life but transforming them and giving them a whole new look. Please don’t wear and hang that sequins dress up after one night! Be adventurous and know that your otherwise “fancy” pieces can be worn during the day and night.
What do you think? Worth a shot?!
