White Eyelet

In the small northeastern town that I was raised in, there was a tiny shop down the street from where my parents grew up called “A Touch of Eyelet” and every time I see an eyelet shirt, blouse, skirt, etc., I always think of that little store.  I do believe that my mom had quite a few dresses custom made for my sisters and I there over the years for special occasions like our First Holy Communion and Easter Sunday.  A few of those dresses are still around today just waiting for Ava and her little baby girl cousin-to-be to wear.

So aside from the obvious nostalgia I feel when I see this fabric, I really love the girly and feminine quality that eyelet offers.  It’s so pretty and always makes that blouse or skirt a little more desirable.  J.Crew really knocked it out of the park with this blouse and for so many reasons.  It’s got the perfect billowy shape to it in that it’s not too boxy and not to form fitting.  I would definitely opt for something form fitting on the bottom so you don’t look too disproportionate.  Big on the top and big on the bottom makes you look just that: big.  This top is nice in that it will work great with shorts, cropped jeans, or cropped pants.  It’s also the most perfect white so the options are endless when you’re trying to find something to wear with it.  I chose the most spring-colored green jeans I have and really loved the way it all came together.  We all know I’m a sucker for cognac and these new sandals are amazing in terms of comfort and quality.  The wedge makes you feel like you’re walking less in a high heel and more in low heel, if that makes sense.  The slope of the heel is so slight and makes them much more comfortable when you’re walking.

So, I have good news and I have bad news.  After it’s debut a little over a week ago, this top isn’t online anymore!  Evidently the demand overtook the supply.  Good to know I’m not alone and I guess when there’s a good sale to be had, other shoppers scooped this right up as well.  I’ll pass on the item number and if you call J.Crew, they can try and track one down for you in a store and will ship it to your house!  It’s called the “Linen Eyelet Top” and the item number is “51243”.  It comes in a pretty coral, white and navy.  I’ll also post an option from something similar at the end of the post.
